- I ran into one of the most racist people in Saudi Arabia last week. We were boarding the plane and the flight had a considerable number of Sri lankan ladies, who were presumably helpers or maids.. Every passenger took their seat, no matter who it was next to, until this girl/woman around the age of 30 walked in. As she was instructed to sit next to 2 Sri lankan ladies she freaked out. She started loudly stating her discontent and disbelief that SHE, the great empress of class, was to be seated next to THE HELP.. oh the shame.. She kept on refusing to take her seat until one of her friends decided to switch with her... what a bitch..
- Go watch Adam.

I am truly starting to believe that you are a real person who is bored enough to toy with the blogging community's emotions..
It's entirely repulsive. I bet you were just itching to tie her down to her seat, slap her.
I would have :P
Ah, the amount of racism here in Saudi is just sky rocketing. Honestly, we, Saudis, are the worst.
The other day, I've been asked directly "Is it ok with you and your family to marry someone from a foreign descent?" The look on the guy's face was like "oh, you're gonna go as low as these people are"
Almost certainly I was gonna reply "Son, it is not ok for anyone to marry a narrow minded person like you are"
Carpe:
or better yet, tie her down and let the "servants" slap her silly..
she would try to wash off their touch for days on end..
Amrush:
dude, its much worse.. I've witnessed some who won't marry from other parts within Saudi Arabia.. We are even internally racist..
Can we sink any lower? Meh.
Have you read about this?
I want to say no, we can't.. but I know that I will be proven wrong sooner than I think..
Lol Yeah I read that, but I would understand why though.. doesn't really classify as "racism" in my book, just plain unfortunate lol...
although having said that, we would create havoc if a similar situation happened to any arab visiting another country..
so i see what you mean..
Saudis seldom display exceptional skills. Racism is one they excel at.
I pity her..
wow, that is special. What was she? Arab?
I agree with Souma
and you should go out more often, that's a typical plastic *prestige* emotion. :-D
Souma:
too bad there isn't an Olympic Racist event.. We would have our first gold medal by now..
His Sweetheart:
Pity is the right feeling.. I tried feeling sorry for her, but it didn't portray enough dismay on my part
Meena:
Special is not a hateful enough word Meena, you may try again..
She is Saudi.. *hides his face in shame*
Dawn:
to be honest, if that is the type of person i will run into when i go out, then i prefer staying in my fantasy land and live in a dream world..
That just gets under my skin, I honestly felt myself getting angry as I read those lines.. Poor women (the women in which that was projected upon of course). It's not even shameful.. It's plain disgusting if you ask me. I am a person who is very patient and quiet but seeing someone degrading someone else, whether based on race, status or just any difference whatsoever, it just pains me. Seriously.. It makes me feel sick. You know how they say 'you judge a man by how he treats people he wants nothing from'. I believe it's true, I also believe that it speaks volumes about others.
I do have something I would like to add though.. I don't think it's racist to choose not to marry someone from a different country, city or background. Marriage is not like friendship, I say this because I think it would be ignorant to choose not to have a friend from a different country or background, you should only choose them based on their personalities, morals, kindness, values, etc.. I don't think it works the exact same way with marriage, does that make sense?
I say this because (along the criteria of a friend) you are also choosing your future and the future of your children in a way. Of course, if the reason for choice is they look down on 'others' then that's something VERY different.. But besides that, it could be plain choice.. It doesn't have to be something negative. I know a lot of people who wouldn't marry someone from another country only because they think the marriage has a lesser chance of working out, or want a person who shares a similar background, others would worry that incase of a divorce, the children would be torn more than an average child would, especially from a girl's point of view probably. I really don't see it in a racist light at all, unless the person means for it to be. I think racism has very clear boarders and attitudes, it can be clearly felt.. And it is ALL stemming from ignorance if you ask me. But yeah.. I don't think I am explaining myself as well as I wish to, but I am pretty sure you understand what I am 'trying' to say.
What a discriminator this great empress is! For me, what is hard to understand is that this all happened in front of many people including you and Sri Lankan ladies. If I were her and didn't want to sit next to them, I would try all my best to hide my intention of not wanting to sit with them. However, this empress doesn't seem to even think that Sri Lankan ladies are humans with heart. That is why she could act in such an obvious way. Poor Sri Lankan ladies.....I can't help hoping the empress will be treated in the same way as she treated Sri Lankan women one day, then she will understand what it is like to be discriminated. Although I don't discriminate people because of the color of skin,it was when I visited Dubai that I felt discriminated for the first time in my life and truly understood what racial discrimination meant. In Western countries like the US and European countries or in any Asian countries I visited, I never felt the kind of discrimination that I felt in Dubai. (I don't say there is no discrimination) I have experienced too many situations where I felt discriminated in Dubai.Really too many. Hers is an example: I took a taxi back to my hotel from a shopping mall. A taxi driver dropped me off not at the hotel entrance but at the back door of the hotel where there were some ladies hoping to do business with hotel guests. I didn't complain to the taxi driver, got down, said hi to the ladies and entered the hotel through the back door. Let's think the driver thought I was one of those ladies. That is fine. I still believe I was a passenger to pay for the service and should be treated as such with respect by him. Don't you think??

I completely understand where you are coming from, and you are right, choosing not to marry someone from another country could be the right choice is the later complications were taken into consideration.
However, what i think Amrush and I were referring to before was pure acts of racism in the choices. You hear them speak of other nationalities in disbelief that you would consider befriending or let alone marrying someone from there.
so you are right, if it was done for the right reasons, then that's fine. as long as the nationality was not dismissed just for being that nationality :)
Yamato Girl:
I think I speak on behalf of every Arab on my blog when i say:
SORRY:
I can only imagine what it felt like, and the weird thing is it happened in Dubai, one of the most international cities in the world.
It is a true shame that we as humans judge people just purely on their looks. specially in this day and age.
I hope that/those incident(s) don't alter your view on the Arab world as a whole. I know that most of what I do on this blog is complain, but there are truly some amazing people in this region.. Let's hope you meet some of them during your next visit :D
Idiocy at its lowest.
